Montemor-o-Novo is about an hour from Lisbon and yet it is in the heart of Alentejo. This is probably one of the best places in Portugal to start a wine route. The white town houses and castle stand out in the landscape.
Between Montemor and Évora, the landscape is essentially dominated by vineyards and olive trees. There are many producers and wineries along the way where you can taste and buy wines.
Évora is one of the most beautiful and well preserved cities in Portugal! The historic city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Strolling through the city's ancient streets is an unforgettable experience. The trip between Évora, Arraiolos and again until Montemor-o-Novo, allows you to leave the main roads and get closer to nature and the typical Alentejo landscape. Arraiolos is a small village known for its handicrafts and traditional rugs.
This Wine Route was designed to allow you to discover the Alentejo, with tranquility, enjoying the serenity of the landscapes and also to know the wines, the producers, and understand what is at the base of some of the best wines in Portugal. The Route can be done in a single day with departure and return to Lisbon, or in a more relaxed way, spending a night or two in the Alentejo and getting to know the places and the wines with greater tranquility.
